Communities in a number of villages around Mount Merapi in Magelang regency, Central Java have their normal activities after the eruption with a column height of 2,000 meters from its peak on Thursday morning.
They include working on the vegetable farming area, mining C excavated material, going to the market, going to school, looking for feed for livestock, and caring for their livestock.
Residents from a number of villages in the region said there was no ash rain after the eruption of Mount Merapi, whose territory includes a number of districts in Central Java Province and Yogyakarta Special Region.
Srumbung Village Coordinator of the Disaster Risk Reduction Organization, Ahmad Muslim, said local residents were doing activities like normal days after the release of hot clouds from Mount Merapi.
“Some went to the rice fields, activities at the Sumbung Market were also busy, coincidentally, it was a market day,” said the Muslim who is also the Head of Planning for Srumbung Village, reported by Antara.
He said there was no ash rain in his village, which is about 12 kilometers southwest of the peak of Mount Merapi. Around 07.10, the peak of Mount Merapi was not visible from the village because it was covered in fog.
A village leader from Ngargomulyo Village, Dukun District, Magelang District, Yatin, also mentioned the activities of residents who live in the village about 10 kilometers southwest of the peak of normal Merapi, including farming, looking for fodder, caring for livestock, and firewood.

“Earlier there was an eruption, but it did not affect the activities of residents here, not panic like 2010 before (the big eruption of Merapi),” he said.
A resident of Grogol Hamlet, Susanto, also said that the local community was active as usual after the volcano eruption. Grogol Hamlet, Mangunsoko Village, Shaman District is about 10 kilometers southwest of the peak of Merapi.
“There is no ash rain, from here the peak of Merapi emits a thin smoke, if there had been an eruption around 06.00 WIB,” he said.
Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Magelang Regency Edy Susanto also said that until around 07.00 WIB there were no reports from officers and volunteers in the field about the ash falling in the villages around Mount Merapi in the region.
“There have been no reports from the field about the ash rain,” he said.
He appealed to residents of the Mount Merapi area to remain calm and follow the development of information related to the volcanic activity released by the Institute for Geological Disaster Investigation and Development Technology in Yogyakarta through various official channels.
“If ash rain does occur, immediately use a nose covering, can mask or other. Follow the information from BPPTKG. Residents remain calm even though they are always vigilant,” he said.
The Twitter account of the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Agency (BPPTKG), which was monitored in Yogyakarta, said that the hot cloud of the eruption of Mount Merapi recorded on the seismogram at 05.16 WIB has a duration of 150 seconds with an amplitude of 75 mm, while the eruption column height is about 2,000 meters and the direction of eruption column wind to the northwest.
To date, BPPTKG maintains the status of Mount Merapi volcanic activity at Level II or Waspada.
In the interim, it does not recommend climbing except for the purposes of investigation and research relating to disaster mitigation.
BPPTKG urges residents not to do activities within a radius of three kilometers from the summit of Mount Merapi.
